We are part of a national initiative to improve the working lives of everyone in trauma and orthopaedics, with a particular focus on the experience of those with protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010:

  • age
  • gender reassignment
  • being married or in a civil partnership
  • being pregnant or on maternity leave
  • disability
  • race including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin
  • religion or belief
  • sex

Please feel free to contact either of us with concerns, queries, ideas or interest in EDI topics.

Our commitment:

We aim to promote the importance of EDI work in our region.

We will provide EDI training for colleagues.

We represent the North East and Cumbria within national BOA-sponsored programmes of research on EDI topics.

We provide a further point of contact for any queries or concerns regarding EDI anywhere in the region.

We will signpost colleagues to relevant EDI resources and organisations.

Escalation

This escalation matrix illustrates how to raise concerns within your Trust

These may include EDI issues – over 30% of interactions with Freedom to Speak Up Guardians involve bullying and harassment

Your first point of contact for any concerns would normally be your Clinical Supervisor or Assigned Educational Supervisor, however, if you feel unable to approach them you can speak to any other member of staff in the matrix, including the Freedom to Speak Up Guardian and Culture and Diversity Champions

We have a remit to support you and signpost to other individuals and organisations

Freedom to Speak Up Guardians

Freedom to Speak Up Guardians provide another channel for you to speak up to

They can offer support and help you to escalate the matter, including anonymously if you prefer

A guardian will ensure you get feedback on how your matter is handled and used for learning. You will also have the opportunity to provide feedback to them.

The National Guardian’s Office support your local Freedom to Speak Up Guardian
